Trip Purpose:
This is the 1st Annual European Clean Water Climb, taking participants on a hut-to-hut hiking adventure through the Julian Alps in Slovenia. The trip includes a guided climb of Mt. Triglav (the highest peak in Slovenia at 9,395 feet), while raising awareness and funds for clean water projects.
Itinerary:
September 6: Depart from Houston or Denver.
September 7: Arrive in Ljubljana (968 ft elevation). Hotel stay in Ljubljana, with a city tour.
September 8: Transfer to Bohinj Valley. 5.6 miles hike to Uskovnica Meadow (3,786 ft), with an elevation gain of 2,200 ft. Stay at Uskovnica Mountain Hut.
September 9: Hike to Dom Planika Mountain Hut. 7.5 miles with 4,020 ft elevation gain (7,877 ft peak).
September 10: Guided via ferrata climb of Mt. Triglav (9,395 ft peak). Hike to Koca pri Triglavskih Jezerih Mountain Hut. 8.1 miles, including 1,804 ft ascent and 4,101 ft descent.
September 11: Hike to Planina Blato, climb Mala Ticarica (6,795 ft), and transfer to Bled. 5.6 miles with 1,200 ft elevation gain and 3,000 ft descent. Hotel stay in Bled.
September 12: Tour Lake Bled area, including the famous castle and island.
September 13: Hike in the Bovec region. 6 miles with 1,300 ft ascent. Hotel stay in Bovec.
September 14: Tour the Soca Valley, with easy flat hiking. Explore Bovec and complete an 8-mile hike.
September 15: Depart for Ljubljana for the return flight, or continue touring on your own.
September 16: Arrive back in Houston.
Cost:
$2,550 per person, excluding airfare. Deposit of $510 due by September 1, 2024.
